We source fresh fruits, vegetables, meat, and grains from local farms, gardens, and veteran- or minority-owned grocers because strong food systems always include local agriculture and businesses. This approach supports both the people who need nutritious food and the people who grow it.
Why does Well Fed exist?
We combat diet-related illness through food as medicine programs and education.

OUR PARTNERS
Providers & Payers
Partnership is foundational for us! We work with healthcare providers and payers to build relationships for long-term impact. Together, we support the full pathway from screening to intervention—combining food sourcing, HUB delivery, and Food as Medicine to drive measurable health outcomes.
Community-Based Partners
Well Fed is a partner-centered organization, and our impact is made possible through strong collaborations with those who share our vision for healthier communities. We work across healthcare, civic, faith-based, and corporate sectors to expand access to nutritious food and improve health outcomes.
Volunteers & Pro Bono
Volunteers play a vital role in Well Fed’s work. They serve directly in underserved communities—supporting programs and offering their time, skills, and expertise to advance our mission. We welcome individual volunteers, corporate teams, school groups, church small groups, and more.
OUR STORY
In 2018, our founder, Joshua Harris, moved to Little Rock to work alongside Vine and Village and the Arkansas Food Bank to provide food to those in need. Josh took over a program created by the City of LR and Vine and Village called Fresh2You that used a city bus converted to deliver food to food desserts. The program was meant to address the lack of food access felt in the Little Rock urban areas where families lived without grocery stores or the economic ability to provide enough food for their family. But even before this food access work was a part of our founders’ experience.

Before Josh ever moved to Little Rock he had led international trips across Central America and Africa often providing food and meals for impoverished villages and towns. Then in 2014 serious health issues resulted in Josh being too sick to get out of bed for 6 weeks. It was during the years that followed that he learned the power of food for health and wellness and a passion to help everyone experience it. In 2020, during the pandemic, Well Fed was launched to combine all the experience and passion of our founder to fight not only food insecurity but with a vision to address nutrition insecurity too.
During the early years in Little Rock Josh noticed a large gap in addressing diet-related illnesses with food. There were plenty of pantries and food banks to supply food to put in the belly but not a strategy for the right kind of food to improve health outcomes. Communities needed more than something to eat, they needed diet intervention and education to get healthy again, reverse disease, and leave a healthy legacy for their kids and grandkids. Well Fed was launched to begin the journey towards changing the health statistics in Arkansas: to lower diabetes and obesity and to decrease the number of deaths related to cardiovascular issues. Arkansas ranks at the bottom of the nation in these issues and Well Fed is passionate about working with like minded partners to change the stats and work with families to live a new healthy life!

OUR HISTORY
2020 - 2021
Well Fed is officially launched as a 501c3 registered non-profit! I remember the first couple months that we started we didn’t even have a warehouse. We rented some temporary space from the State Fair Grounds just to get some initial projects done. We had lots of volunteers and enthusiasm as we boxed food and delivered it to families in need. Our board was small but we were focused.
2021 - 2022
Our first full year of Well Fed got exciting when our first addition to the staff arrived all the way from South Carolina! Peter joined our staff and brought young ideas and energy. We added new programs with our first grants to serve families in low-income housing here in Little Rock and enjoyed developing those relationships with residents.
2022 - 2023
In year three, Josh was able to start connecting with our state reps and senators to advocate for the needs of our communities. We joined a national organization called the National Produce Prescription Collaborative and Josh began interviewing everyone in the country using food as medicine. That was the year we were able to launch our first full FIM program with partners UAMS and the ARHP in Helena-West Helena. The Spring of 2023 was an exciting time for us as we felt our mission expanding and growing.
2023 - 2024
Our volunteers & partners work firsthand in underserved communities. Volunteers assist at programs or use their expertise to drive our mission forward. We collaborate with partners to fund programs that improve community health outcomes.
2024 - 2025
Our fifth year saw Carter take over for Zaccheus. What excites us the most in year five is knowing that we continue to expand our network, improve our logistics, grow our team, and fine-tune what food as medicine can do here in Arkansas. We published our research results from Helena-West Helena, took on a new sponsorship from Aetna, added new partners, and now sit at the precipice of an incredible launch to expand Food as Medicine programs across our state. Year six is going to be incredible!
