Filling the Gap in Food Access in Downtown LR
Starting in January 2022, Well Fed partnered with the Salvation Army of Little Rock to bring fresh, nutritious groceries to families who need them most.
Over nearly three years, our mobile market has supported close to 300 households—many returning month after month for healthy produce, proteins, and grains that help stretch tight budgets.
In a community where many residents live on fixed incomes or disability benefits, this partnership has filled a critical gap, ensuring families don’t have to choose between paying bills and putting healthy food on the table.
"I’m not going to take everything because I don’t like some of this food. Some places give me food that I don’t like and I never eat. I like what y’all do because I get to choose what I want and leave what I don't want for someone else that needs it."
Loretta, Program Participant
The Salvation Army team has seen firsthand the difference this program makes. “When people come in and see fresh produce—potatoes, bell peppers, fruits—they get excited,” one staff member shared.“This program is completely different because people can choose what they want. We don’t have the resources to do that—but Well Fed makes it possible.”
Together, we’ve created a dignified, empowering experience that restores both access and choice in healthy eating.
"Some of the other pantries do client choice markets but don't give me fresh fruits and vegetables, just packaged items. This program gives me the choice to eat healthier."
