Churches As Local Food Access Points
In Helena-West Helena, where healthy grocery options are limited, Well Fed partnered with Delta Circles and two local churches to make nutritious food more accessible for local families.
Together, we provided healthy groceries to 342 households through monthly mobile markets, connecting them to fresh fruits, vegetables, and proteins. The goal was simple but powerful—to strengthen both the health outcomes and economic stability of families in one of Arkansas’s most food-insecure counties, where 46% of children faced food insecurity in 2022.
By combining Well Fed’s mobile market model with the trusted relationships of Delta Circles and local faith leaders, this partnership helped bridge two critical gaps: access to nutritious food and access to opportunity.
Families were able to shop for healthy ingredients close to home and for free, creating a dignified and empowering experience that brought new energy to the community.
"One participant, Jasmine Smith, shared an especially inspiring story—after being diagnosed with diabetes in 2020, she transformed her health through diet and lifestyle changes, eventually reversing her diagnosis. Now she’s using her journey to show others in Helena-West Helena that healthy food can be delicious and attainable for everyone."
